What You Need to Know
VUSD’s Criminal Justice & the Law CTE track prepares students for successful careers in the legal and criminal justice fields. The program provides students (10th grade and up) with descriptive overview of both the adult and juvenile justice systems — from the commission of crimes and offenses through sentencing and appeal procedures. Criminal justice standards and goals, along with the relationship of criminal justice to the social and behavioral sciences, are emphasized throughout the program. Students analyze the historical development of Criminal Law and learn to apply it to modern practices and scenarios — thereby developing a strong understanding of the interrelationship between Criminal Law and the Criminal Justice system. The program is based at Buena High School and leads directly to VUSD’s Legal Practices pathway. Students emerge from this program with enhanced skills, insight, confidence and relationships.
